The most complete story of the Ayub years is ALTAF GAUHARAyub Khan: Pakistan’s First Military Ruler (1993). HASAN ZAHEERThe Times and Trial of the Rawalpindi Conspiracy Case, 1951 (1998), discusses the first coup attempt in Pakistan. INAYATULLAHPakistan Politics (1993), provides a personal account by an old Pakistani civil servant. AYESHA JALALThe State of Martial Rule (1990), gives information on the origins of Pakistan’s political economy of defense.
